July 8, 1995 – Saturday – 6:40 p.m.

Jackie is one of the owners of McDonald’s in Siler City.  Her cousin is staying with them for the summer while she does an internship in Greensboro.  She is from Pennsylvania and is working at McDonald’s to make some extra money.  We ran the drive-thru together yesterday and we talked a lot.  She is really fun.  She was there today as well.

And her name is Barbie.  And, yes, she’s super tall with long blonde hair.

I think Barbie is short for Barbara.  She is 21 and I feel like I have a new friend.

Last night, Marcus and I went to the 10:00 p.m. showing of Species in Greensboro.  That is one movie I hope to never see again.  It scared the crap out of me, grossed me out, and scared the crap out of me again.  I had a lump in my throat on the way home.

Scott was just here.  He came to visit.  He is okay, but things are different.

Objects in the rearview mirror are closer than they appear.

Now, I find myself looking ahead.  I tried to call Michelle today, but no one was home.

I miss Charlie.  Miss everyone at Heaton.  I want to see Laura smile again.

Well, I’m off to find something to eat and then go for a walk and prepare my heart for church tomorrow.  Wednesday will come.  Joy will come.

There is a song out these days by Bryan Adams, “Have you ever really loved a woman?”

And with a smile, I can gladly and proudly say, “No.”
